Building Veterinary Clinic Websites: A Developer's Cost & Architecture Breakdown

Vet clinic sites look simple on the surface — a few pages, a contact form — but the ones that actually convert visitors into booked appointments have more moving parts than most small-business sites. Worth breaking down for other devs quoting this kind of work.

Where the complexity actually lives:

Not the page count — it's the integrations. A basic 5–8 page brochure site with a static contact form is a weekend build. The moment a client asks for live appointment booking tied into their existing scheduling software (Vetstoria, IDEXX, Cornerstone), you're doing real API/webhook work, not just page layout — and pricing needs to reflect that.

Rough pricing anchors I use:

Static brochure, custom design: $1,800–$4,500
live booking integration: add $800–$2,500 depending on the API's documentation quality
e-commerce (food/med reorders): add $1,500–$3,000 for a small WooCommerce build
Multi-location (separate hours/staff/pages per branch): scales cost significantly, mostly in content architecture, not code complexity

Architecture notes for multi-location builds:

Each location needs its own indexable page for local SEO — resist the temptation to handle this with a single dynamic template with a location dropdown, since that usually hurts organic visibility per-location. Separate static-feeling pages (even if templated on the backend) index and rank better individually.

Client-side gotcha worth flagging upfront:

Clinics often want appointment-software integration added post-launch instead of scoping it in from the start. If you can, get this decision made before final design — retrofitting a booking form into an already-built layout usually means redoing more than the client expects, and re-quoting mid-project is an awkward conversation.
