I use Cursor every day, and honestly, I ca not imagine going back to writing everything manually. AI has made me much faster.
But lately I have noticed something.
When I used to write code myself, I knew my codebase inside out. If a bug came up, I could usually point to the exact file or logic because I had written it and understood how everything was connected.
Now the workflow is simple. Describe the requirement, get the code, review it quickly, test it, and move on.
The feature gets built faster, but I do not always build the same understanding of the code.
What worries me more is the dependency I am seeing. I have come across developers who struggle to write even a few lines of code if Cursor or Claude isn't available. That doesn't feel right.
AI should make us more productive, not replace our ability to think and solve problems.
I am not saying we should stop using AI. I just think we should spend more time understanding the code it generates instead of accepting it blindly. Otherwise, we might become great at prompting but not so great at debugging or building things from scratch.
Am I the only one feeling this, or have you noticed it too?
