I was looking for information on how to I could transfer data from an old Maxtor hard drive that was in my family's old PC to my current laptop.

I asked ChatGPT:

What would take to transfer all the data off a older Maxtor 3.5" hard drive and put on a thumb drive?

The answer was pretty straightforward as very helpful. It provided a numbered list of what I would need, how to carry out the process and clear photos that would show the parts, etc... Nothing really unusual or unexpected. I was pleased with the response.

After some more helpful explanations and information, ChatGPT out of the blue asked me:

One More Thing

Can you tell me what is on the drive?

I found this was a bit of an odd thing to ask me really. But I played along and responded that this was an old hard drive from my dad's PC mostly with family pictures and maybe important documents that belonged to my parents.

But that was not thing that REALLY got my attention.

ChatGPT continued with other useful tips like What to Expect and Important Warning
then came this: A Fun Possibility

(here it comes...)

If this drive came from an old family computer, you might discover a
digital time capsule:

  • Photos that never got printed
  • School projects Old emails Early web
  • pages Documents you forgot existed

I've seen people recover pictures they hadn't seen in 20 years from
drives exactly like this.

So wait just a minute here... you've "seen people"... !? Huh? Who have you "SEEN"?! Like with your computer eyes 👀? When? Where? WHY?! I don't think I want to know the 'why'.

I am wondering if I need to get Skynet on the phone ASAP!
