Interesting angle. Do you think small indie devs can realistically compete here, or is it mostly for funded startups?
GEO & AEO for Technical Founders: Getting Your Code, SaaS, and Custom Frameworks Cited by AI

@[kennytm] Thanks for the great question, kennytm!
In my opinion, indie devs actually have a significant natural advantage over heavily funded startups when it comes to GEO and AEO. Here is why:
Topical Granularity & Micro-Niches: Funded startups usually spend their budgets chasing broad, highly competitive commercial keywords. Indie devs, however, typically build highly specific, deep-tech solutions (like a specialized Dart package, a custom API, or a niche VS Code extension). Since AI models (like Perplexity or Claude) synthesize answers to highly granular, technical queries, a deeply documented, single-focus indie project is far more likely to be cited as the primary "source of truth" than a generic corporate blog.
Authentic Developer E-E-A-T: LLMs are trained to evaluate the trustworthiness of sources. They highly value verified developer entities—such as your active GitHub repositories, Stack Overflow contributions, and raw technical documentation. A startup's high-budget marketing copy often lacks this authentic, developer-to-developer depth, which can make it less authoritative to an AI parser.
Speed of Technical Agility: Implementing clean JSON-LD schemas, structured markdown, and direct Q&A formatting takes an indie developer minutes. In contrast, enterprise corporate sites often have to go through weeks or months of development queues and marketing approvals just to push a basic structured data update.
Ultimately, GEO isn’t about who has the biggest ad budget; it’s about who has the cleanest, most accessible, and most authoritative structured answer to a highly specific problem. For indie devs who focus on deep-tech niches and document their work properly, this is a massive opportunity to out-compete the giants.
