FREYA Family — Sovereign Household AI

FREYA Family — Sovereign Household AI

BackerLeader posted 1 min read

Why I built it

Every family AI on the market sends conversations to Big Tech servers. Kids' homework, parents' messages, medical questions — all of it stored, analyzed, and used to train models you didn't consent to.

FREYA Family is the opposite of that. The whole thing runs on your own computer. No cloud, no API calls, no data ever leaves your network. One-time payment. No subscription.

What's in it

  • Local LLM running on your hardware (Qwen 2.5 14B by default, scales based on your machine)
  • Always-on mic + wake word — "Hey FREYA"
  • Female voice via Kokoro TTS, fully local
  • Multi-device LAN sync — supports up to 6 kids + 2 adults across the household, all sharing one FREYA instance
  • Kids Protection Layer — YouTube/Roblox monitoring, predator detection, all local
  • Medical Vault for family health records
  • Hardware-scaled model selection — runs on what you've got

Numbers

  • 67 of 67 tests passing
  • Single 2.15GB Windows .exe
  • $149 lifetime, BYOK option (Claude / GPT / Gemini / Grok)
  • Shipped to Gumroad yesterday

Why it matters

The thought of every question a family asks an AI being logged on someone else's server bothered me enough that I built the alternative. If you're tired of subscription AI products that ship your data to the cloud, this is for you.

Built by a one-person company in Idaho Falls (Teton Data Systems LLC). Brand is Snake River AI.

Happy to answer questions on the architecture, the local-first design choices, the LAN sync approach, or the Kids Protection Layer. This is a developer community so I figure technical depth lands here.
