Nice example with the real-life analogy, makes me wonder how often beginners mix up Zones and Regions in practice?
What Is an Availability Zone Explained Simply
3 Comments
Finally, someone explained AZs without making my brain melt with jargon. I always thought they were just virtual partitions, but knowing they’re actually separate physical buildings with their own power grids changes how I look at AWS/Azure docs.
Quick question though—if I’m syncing data across zones to keep things redundant, doesn't that add a noticeable lag? Or is the fiber link between them fast enough that you don't even feel it?
Anyway, solid write-up. Cheers!
@[Masbadar] I am glad the explanation helped. Availability Zones can sound abstract in the documentation, so thinking of them as separate physical data centers helps make it easier to understand.
From the little I know, Availability Zones within the same region are connected with very fast fiber networks, so the latency between them is designed to be low.
