Designing the estimate form for a painting contractor site

Most local-service sites treat the contact form as an afterthought. For a painting contractor it is the main conversion point, so it deserves the same care as the design.

Why painters are different from emergency trades: nobody calls a painter at midnight. They collect a few names, describe the job and wait for a reply. The form has to make describing the job quick, and it has to give the contractor enough detail to answer well.

Fields that earn their place:

  • Name, phone, email, and a preferred contact method
  • Interior, exterior, or both
  • Rough number of rooms, or approximate exterior size
  • A photo upload (the biggest quality boost, because the painter can give a better first answer)
  • Timing: this month, next season, flexible
  • One free-text box for the unusual stuff (high ceilings, wallpaper, repairs)

Things I check before calling it done:

  1. The form works on a phone with one thumb
  2. The notification reaches a real inbox, not spam
  3. Spam protection does not block real customers
  4. The visitor sees a confirmation and gets an automatic email
  5. Uploaded photos are size-limited so the host does not choke

The same logic applies to the rest of the site: put the effort into the gallery, one page per job type and the form, and skip the animation and the dozens of thin town pages.

If you want the full cost breakdown with budget ranges and three sample budgets, I put it together here: https://amanurrahman.com/blog-post/painting-contractor-website-cost
