Creating monthly website performance reports can be surprisingly time-consuming, especially when you're managing multiple websites.
You need to check Google Search Console, open Google Analytics 4, compare performance, organize the data, build charts, and figure out what actions to take next.
I wanted to simplify that process.
So I started using a Python-based reporting workflow to generate monthly website performance reports using Google Search Console (GSC) and Google Analytics 4 (GA4).
The result? I can prepare reports for three websites in under five minutes.
What Does Each Report Include?
The automation generates a separate PDF report for each website.
Each report contains:
Google Search Console data: Organic search clicks, impressions, CTR, and average position.
Google Analytics 4 data: Website traffic and engagement metrics.
Performance tables: Organized data to make monthly comparisons easier.
Visual charts: Graphs that help reveal traffic and search performance trends.
Actionable recommendations: Suggested next steps based on each website's performance.
Instead of spending most of my time collecting data, I can spend more time understanding what needs improvement.
My Monthly Reporting Workflow
Here's how I approach the process.
Step 1: Connect the Data Sources
The reporting workflow uses Google Search Console and Google Analytics 4 as its primary data sources.
Each website needs access to the appropriate GSC property and GA4 property.
Step 2: Run the Reporting Automation
Once everything is configured, I run the reporting script.
The workflow collects the available performance data and processes it for each website.
Step 3: Generate a PDF Report
The results are organized into 2 page PDF file containing tables, charts, and performance summaries.
This makes it easier to review each website individually or share the reports with clients and team members.
Step 4: Review the Recommended Actions
What should I prioritize next month?
The reports provide suggested actions, which I review before making SEO decisions.
Why I Prefer Automated Reports
The biggest benefit isn't just saving time.
It's having a repeatable workflow that makes monthly reporting more consistent.
Instead of manually preparing similar reports every month, I can focus on analyzing trends, identifying problems, and planning improvements.
Of course, automation doesn't replace human judgment. GA4 and GSC measure different things, and recommendations still need to be evaluated in context.
