Are AI Agents Replacing Parts of the Developer’s Job?

AI agents are no longer just helping developers write code.

They can now plan tasks, write code, run tests, debug errors, work with repositories, and even make changes across multiple files.

So the question is:

Are AI agents actually replacing parts of a developer’s job?

Maybe the developer’s role is shifting from:

“Write the code”

to:

“Tell the AI what to build, review what it produces, and make the important decisions.”

But there’s another side to this.

If AI handles more of the implementation, what happens to the skills developers traditionally spent years building?

And will junior developers still get enough hands-on experience to become strong engineers?

What do you think?

Are AI agents:

🤖 Replacing parts of the developer’s job
🚀 Making developers dramatically more productive
🔄 Changing the developer’s role, not replacing it
⚠️ Creating more problems than they solve
🤷 Too early to tell

What part of a developer’s work do you think AI agents will replace first?
