Thanks for this article. I'm borrowing heavily from Dave Farley with this thought... but we used to reject the factory metaphor for software development, because when we're building software our role is more like designing the car than assembling it on the factory floor. The great thing about continuous delivery is that it identifies the part of the process that is the factory - everything that happens after we commit changes. That should all be automated, reliable, repeatable, safe, and secure. Exactly what you highlight here.
