@[Arjan Tijms] Categorization is one of those features that took a lot of time to get right. After extensive testing and real user feedback, I landed on a two-step approach:
- Merchant name check: for most transactions, it identifies the
category instantly based on the merchant. - Item-level analysis: for complex receipts (like a Walmart receipt with groceries, electronics,
and clothing), it scans the individual items. If they're mostly one
type, it picks that category. If it's a mixed bag, it falls back to a
general category like Shopping.
There are also tags that act as subcategories for even more robust tracking.
