Yes, exactly. The integration feels fine at the start. The problem shows up later when usage grows and you start hitting limits. Then suddenly the costs jump and it catches people off guard. This is a great reminder that “faster to build” doesn’t mean “cheaper to run.”
Third-party APIs shift complexity, but they also shift control—pricing changes, rate limits, or outages suddenly become your problem. And since most of them scale with usage, success actually makes your costs worse over time.
Feels like the real takeaway is: every API you add is a long-term dependency decision, not just a shortcut.
