I Built Expirel Because I Was Tired of Restarting My Habits Again and Again

posted 2 min read

Like many of you here, I love building things.

But outside coding, I struggled with something very basic: consistency.

I tried to build simple habits:

  • Work out daily
  • Read every day
  • Work on side projects regularly

I would start strong.
Then life would get busy.
One missed day… then another… and suddenly everything stopped.

The worst part?
I didn’t quit on purpose.
I just forgot at the wrong time.

The Problem I Personally Faced

I used many habit tracker apps.

They looked good.
Charts, streaks, motivation quotes.

But they all had one big problem:

They reminded me after I failed.

By the time I saw the reminder, the habit was already broken.
And then guilt kicked in.
And then I stopped using the app.

That’s when I realized something important:

People don’t fail because they are lazy. They fail because reminders
come too late.

The Idea That Changed Everything

One day I thought:

We track expiry everywhere.

  • OTPs expire
  • Subscriptions expire
  • Deadlines expire

So why don’t habits work the same way?

What if instead of saying “you missed your habit”,
the system said “your habit is about to expire”?

That one idea changed how I looked at habits.

That’s How Expirel Was Born

I built Expirel to solve my own problem first.

Expirel is not just a habit tracker.

It’s a habit + expiry reminder system that:

  • Reminds you before a habit expires
  • Works with Email and WhatsApp
  • Helps you stay consistent without pressure or guilt

You can also track:

  • Subscription renewals
  • Important deadlines
  • Medicine expiry
  • Any time-sensitive task
  • Food expiry

All with reminders before it’s too late.

Why I’m Sharing This Here

I’m sharing Expirel on CoderLegion because:

  • This is a builder community
  • Many of us struggle with consistency
  • We understand that systems matter more than motivation

Expirel is my attempt to solve a real-life problem using a simple system.

What I’m Looking For

I’m still improving Expirel.

I’d love:

  • Honest feedback
  • Feature ideas
  • Bugs or UX suggestions
  • Thoughts from other builders

If Expirel helps even a few people stay consistent, it’s worth it for me.

Thanks for reading.
And if you try Expirel, I’d genuinely love to hear your thoughts.
