I built an open-source IRC client for Android – AndroidIRCX

posted 1 min read

Hey everyone
I’ve been working on an open-source IRC client for Android called AndroidIRCX, and I wanted to share it with the community.
The goal was to create a modern, lightweight, and privacy-focused IRC app, while preserving the classic IRC experience. The app is actively maintained and continues to evolve based on user feedback.
Key features:
Real-time notifications
Optional app lock (PIN / biometrics)
Supports irc:// and ircs:// deep links
Multiple servers and channels
Reliable auto-reconnect logic
ZNC (bouncer) ready
IRCv3 protocol support
End-to-end encryption (E2EE)
Clean, simple UI with no unnecessary tracking
The entire project is fully open source, and contributions, issues, and pull requests are very welcome.
GitHub:
https://github.com/AndroidIRCx/AndroidIRCx
Google Play:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.androidircx
Website:
https://androidircx.com
This started mostly as a passion project and as a way to keep IRC usable and relevant on modern Android devices.
I’d love to hear your feedback, suggestions, or criticism
Thanks for reading!
