Reliability Engineering to Data Engineering

Reliability Engineering to Data Engineering

Over the past few years, my professional journey has taken an unexpected but deeply meaningful turn. What began as a focused path in Functional Safety—SIS, SIL, lifecycle governance, risk modeling—has steadily converged with a growing passion for data analysis and data‑driven decision making.

At first, these felt like two separate worlds. Functional Safety was structure, standards, and engineering discipline. Data Analysis was exploration, modeling, and interpretation. But the deeper I went, the more obvious the connection became.

Functional Safety is ultimately a data problem:
• failure rates
• diagnostics
• degradation patterns
• proof test results
• mission time
• risk calculations
• drift detection

Data Analysis is the language that makes all of this visible, measurable, and actionable.

Today, I find myself increasingly comfortable operating in both domains.
I can speak the language of IEC 61508/61511, and I can translate that into models, pipelines, and insights that reflect real operational behavior—not just design assumptions.

This convergence has reshaped how I think about safety, reliability, and engineering.
It has also opened new doors:

• dynamic risk modeling
• SIL(t) concepts
• degradation analytics
• data‑driven maintenance
• predictive insights
• operational intelligence

I’m excited about where this blended path is taking me.
Functional Safety gave me the discipline.
Data Analysis is giving me the visibility.
Together, they’re giving me a clearer, more modern way to understand how systems truly behave.

Still learning. Still evolving.
But more aligned than ever.
