Hi everyone! I am Laura, an accessibility specialist working on assistive technology for people with low vision. My specialities are web accessibility and user experience. At the moment, I am very invested in learning how to improve code for screen reader output, across HTML and WAI-ARIA, different screen reader types, and browsers.

The latest challenge I encountered was with voice configurations and language settings. If the document, system settings, and screen reader voice are all set to the same language, one wouldn't notice, but with multilingual content or variance between content and system language, this gets tricky!
For example:
<p>Pidgeotto (Japanese:<span lang="ja">ピジョン</span>Pigeon)</p>
If read with a screen reader that uses Microsoft Voices, the Japanese part will be read out normally, but some programs, like the Eloquence text-to-speech synthesizer, don't know how to read Japanese and therefore just skip that span completely.

Hi James,
I am Pravin Jain.
I have difficulties with my eye sight, and find it difficult to use sites not having dark mode. It is really good to find this platform which has a single click to switch to dark mode.
This makes the platform more accessible.
Slowly more websites are providing dark mode options.
Thanks
