I’m part of the team behind CADEditor. We built a browser workspace for a practical task: opening a 2D CAD drawing, making a focused change, and handing back an editable file or a clean review copy.

A drawing handoff often involves two different needs. The person making the next change needs editable geometry. The person reviewing it may only need a readable vector PDF. Keeping those outputs separate helps preserve the useful drawing data.

What is available

  • Open DWG, DXF and DWT files in the browser.
  • Work with layers, geometry, text, dimensions, coordinates and snapping.
  • Measure distances, undo changes and use blocks.
  • Export editable DWG/DXF, SVG or a watermark-free vector PDF.
  • Use the documented API for supported automated CAD tasks.

Ordinary browser editing does not require an installation or account. Files used for ordinary local work stay on the device; optional cloud storage, sharing and API workflows require an explicit upload.

A small handoff example

Suppose a teammate asks for a mounting-hole position to move. Keep an untouched copy of the source, confirm the drawing units, isolate the relevant layer, make the change, and check the new dimension. Return the editable drawing for further work and a PDF for review. The screenshot alone should not become the only record of the change.

That workflow is a useful starting point for evaluating the editor with a non-sensitive sample drawing. Check the entities and dimensions that matter to your own files before using it for a production handoff.

Free access and boundaries

The service is free, with a 100 MB file limit and 50 browser file tasks per UTC day. Batch jobs accept up to 10 files; cloud storage is 100 MB and the API allowance is 100 calls per day. It is a 2D CAD tool rather than a 3D modeller or an AI drawing generator.

You can try CADEditor’s browser workspace or read the CAD API documentation.

I maintain JPG to SVG, a free browser tool for cropping and resizing raster images, then tracing them into SVG paths.
