WordOnline is a browser workspace for the document handoff that often follows a software project: the release note, client instructions, and the final DOCX or PDF.

We work on WordOnline. The aim is straightforward: make a small document edit or combine a handoff packet without setting up another account.

A practical handoff workflow

  1. Open an existing DOC or DOCX from your computer.
  2. Update the text and formatting in the editor.
  3. When several documents belong together, add them to the merge workflow and set their order.
  4. Download the result as DOCX for continued editing, or PDF for distribution.
  5. Reopen the exported file and check headings, page breaks, links, and tables before sending it to a client.

Open the document editor.

Why keep the document work local?

Document content is processed in the browser. That gives teams a useful option when they want a local-file workflow rather than uploading the document to a shared cloud workspace. The website still uses network resources and usage telemetry; local document processing does not mean zero network activity.

The core workflow does not require an account. Editing is free, with up to 10 successful conversion, merge, or download tasks per browser per day. The file limit is 25 MB, and a merge can contain up to 20 files.

Start with a small, repeatable delivery

A useful first task is a two-file handoff: an overview followed by operating instructions. Keep the editable DOCX as your working copy, produce a PDF for the recipient, and review both exports. A short, consistent delivery check is often more useful than adding another layer of workflow software.
