Building MyZubster: Daniel Ioni’s Journey From an Idea to an Open-Source Ecosystem

What happens when a software project grows beyond being an application?

For Daniel Ioni, that question became the starting point for MyZubster — an open-source ecosystem exploring artificial intelligence, environmental projects, digital identity, community participation, robotics, IoT, decentralized infrastructure, and more.

But MyZubster didn't begin with a large team, a finished business plan, or even a clearly defined product category.

It began with a question:

Can technology help people, communities, and organizations turn useful real-world activity into visible and verifiable value?

That question gradually became an evolving ecosystem.

And Daniel is still building it, learning from it, and discovering what it can become.


It Started With a Bigger Question

MyZubster began with an interest in connecting technology with real-world problems involving the environment, local resources, circular economy, and collaboration.

As the project developed, Daniel became increasingly interested in the gap between digital platforms and real-world action.

Many digital systems are designed primarily to attract attention.

Daniel wanted to explore something different.

Could a platform help coordinate contributions, document evidence, and connect people with meaningful projects?

That idea eventually grew into several connected components:

  • A public open-source platform
  • Community and contributor profiles
  • Environmental missions and pilot projects
  • A marketplace for products and services
  • AI-assisted guidance
  • Digital characters and narrative identities
  • Evidence, provenance, and impact measurement
  • Experimental blockchain and decentralized-infrastructure components

But building such a broad ecosystem created another challenge.

How do you clearly communicate what actually exists?

That question would become one of Daniel's most important lessons.


An Idea Is Not an Implementation

One of the principles Daniel has developed while building MyZubster is the importance of clearly separating different states of a project.

A proposal is not an implementation.

A pull request is not a deployment.

A visual concept is not proof that a feature exists.

And a potential collaboration is not a confirmed partnership.

"Building in public requires being honest about those differences."

Daniel began explicitly distinguishing between states such as:

  • PROPOSED
  • IMPLEMENTED
  • VERIFIED
  • SIMULATION
  • FICTION
  • TO_CONFIRM
  • TO_VERIFY

At first, this might seem overly cautious.

But for a project combining AI, storytelling, blockchain, environmental ideas, and community participation, it solves a genuine problem.

An attractive narrative can move much faster than the evidence underneath it.

For Daniel, documentation therefore became more than a description of the code.

It became part of the project's governance.


Building Zorgax

As MyZubster became more complex, Daniel needed a way to help people understand and navigate the growing ecosystem.

That layer became Zorgax.

Zorgax is the AI and knowledge component of MyZubster.

Its intended role isn't to replace human responsibility or make uncontrolled decisions.

Instead, it is designed to help users:

  • Understand available tools
  • Navigate projects and documentation
  • Find relevant missions
  • Organize authorized information
  • Interact with the ecosystem
  • Connect technical knowledge with real-world objectives

This led Daniel to become particularly interested in human-in-the-loop systems.

AI can organize information, generate explanations, inspect technical states, and support decision-making.

But there are boundaries.

AI should not silently invent evidence, grant consent, confirm partnerships, or perform sensitive actions without human authorization.

Daniel describes the principle simply:

Automation can assist the process, but humans must retain authority over consequential decisions.

That principle has increasingly influenced the architecture of MyZubster and Zorgax.


Learning to Build in Public

GitHub became the main source of truth for the project.

As MyZubster expanded, its public repositories began containing code, documentation, roadmaps, characters, visual assets, experiments, and technical proposals.

Working publicly forced Daniel to become more precise about how he described the state of different components.

It also taught him that building in public is not simply about showing what you are building.

It is about making the development process understandable to other people.

That means being clear about what is finished, what is experimental, and what remains uncertain.

For Daniel, transparency became an engineering principle rather than simply a communication strategy.


The Challenge: Turning a Huge Vision Into a Simple Experience

One of the biggest challenges Daniel has faced is turning a large vision into small, understandable experiences.

MyZubster may contain many interconnected ideas.

But visitors don't experience an architecture diagram.

They experience a homepage.

A button.

A loading screen.

A registration form.

If the first step isn't clear, the larger vision doesn't matter.

This became particularly obvious when Daniel looked at product analytics.

People were visiting the website, but not everyone was progressing toward meaningful actions.

That raised a series of practical questions:

  • Do visitors understand what MyZubster is?
  • Is the main action obvious?
  • Can they try something before registering?
  • Do they know what happens after clicking?
  • Are we measuring visits or actual participation?
  • Does the experience work well for mobile visitors coming from Facebook?

The focus began shifting.

Instead of simply adding more concepts, Daniel started focusing on improving the path toward a user's first meaningful result.


From Visual Storytelling to an Interactive World

Visual storytelling became another important part of MyZubster.

The project includes images, comic panels, and videos connected to Zorgax, environmental projects, circular economy, the Space Station, community characters, and the MyZubster Metaverse.

For Daniel, these visuals serve several purposes.

They can explain complex ideas.

They can preserve project history.

They can create a recognizable world.

They can make future directions easier to discuss.

And they can help contributors understand where they fit into the ecosystem.

But Daniel deliberately maintains a boundary between storytelling and evidence.

An illustration can show an imagined interface or a future environment.

It doesn't prove that every feature shown in that image already exists.

That distinction became particularly important when developing the MyZubster comic.


The MyZubster Comic

The MyZubster comic isn't simply marketing material.

Daniel sees it as a kind of narrative interface.

It connects software, community, environmental ideas, characters, and digital culture.

The public gallery explores themes such as:

  • The city as a living organism
  • Zorgax as a guide
  • Neon Plaza
  • The Space Station
  • Community networks
  • Circular economy
  • Digital identity
  • The history of online communities

The comic gives people another way to enter the ecosystem.

Code explains how a system works.

Narrative can help people understand why the system exists and where they might belong inside it.

That distinction has become an important part of Daniel's approach to building MyZubster.


Preserving Digital Memory With Darkode

Another part of the project is Darkode, which represents a layer of personal and cultural memory connected to the origins and influences behind MyZubster.

For Daniel, publishing historical material creates an important responsibility.

There needs to be a distinction between:

  • Documented facts
  • Personal recollections
  • Archived evidence
  • Narrative interpretation
  • Information that remains uncertain

He didn't want historical material to present every memory as independently verified fact.

Instead, Darkode was designed to preserve context while acknowledging the limits of the available evidence.

That reflects a broader lesson Daniel has learned while building MyZubster:

Transparency also means showing uncertainty.


Creating Neon Plaza

The Metaverse component began as a prototype involving guest avatars, movement, presence, chat, emotes, and thematic areas.

Eventually, it became Neon Plaza, a public interactive environment.

But there was a problem.

The word "Metaverse" created more questions than answers.

Visitors didn't immediately understand what they were supposed to experience or why they should enter.

So Daniel and the team simplified the onboarding process.

A visitor can now:

  • Choose a public display name
  • Create a temporary guest character
  • Enter without registering
  • Enter without a wallet
  • Use the experience without a VR headset
  • Move using WASD or the arrow keys
  • Visit portals
  • Interact through chat and emotes
  • Discover other parts of MyZubster

The idea was simple:

Let users experience value before asking them to commit.

That principle changed the way Daniel thought about onboarding.


The First Mission

An open digital world can still feel empty if visitors don't know what to do.

So the team introduced a simple first mission guided by Zorgax:

Move your character and reach one of Neon Plaza's glowing portals.

The mission is intentionally simple.

Its purpose is to transform a passive visitor into an active participant.

The onboarding journey became:

  1. Arrive at the homepage
  2. Enter Neon Plaza as a guest
  3. Create a character
  4. Begin the first mission
  5. Reach a portal
  6. Complete the mission
  7. Receive an invitation to verify the character
  8. Register to preserve the experience

The lesson was important.

Meaningful onboarding doesn't necessarily require a huge tutorial.

It requires one understandable action followed by a visible result.


Working With Nicola and N4K48

One of the most meaningful parts of the project has been Daniel's collaboration with his friend Nicola.

Daniel helped Nicola use Zorgax and set up MyZubster on his computer.

Nicola's character, N4K48, then became an experimental participant inside Neon Plaza.

This changed the nature of the project.

It was no longer only about abstract user profiles.

There was now a real person, real choices, real feedback, and real consent requirements involved.

Nicola also used AI-assisted creative tools to produce three comic panels:

  1. "From a Software Idea to the Metaverse"
  2. "The Software Takes Shape"
  3. "Towards Neon Plaza"

The panels describe his idea and journey toward the MyZubster Metaverse.

The collaboration also reinforced another principle for Daniel:

A contribution must be connected to its creator without assuming ownership, consent, or rights that have not been explicitly confirmed.

That principle became particularly important when the possibility of turning one of the panels into an NFT was discussed.


An NFT Candidate Is Not a Minted NFT

Nicola proposed the first comic panel, "From a Software Idea to the Metaverse," as a possible NFT candidate.

It would have been easy to simply describe it as an NFT project.

Instead, Daniel documented its actual state.

No mint had taken place.

There was:

  • No selected blockchain
  • No registered wallet for the operation
  • No selected smart contract
  • No token ID
  • No transaction hash

Before anything could be minted, the project needed to establish the relevant rights and provenance.

That includes confirming:

  • Authorship
  • The AI tools and creative process
  • The original file
  • Manual modifications
  • Third-party assets
  • Applicable licenses
  • Authorization to use MyZubster elements
  • Nicola's explicit approval
  • Any commercial terms or royalties

The status therefore remained:

Ready for rights review — not ready to mint.

For Daniel, this may be slower than simply publishing a token.

But it creates a more responsible and verifiable process.


Measuring Real Engagement

Another important part of MyZubster's development has been measuring the actual user journey.

The team is particularly interested in understanding traffic coming from Facebook and how visitors move through the platform.

The current funnel looks roughly like this:

Facebook → Homepage → Neon Plaza → Mission → Character Verification → Registration

Instead of measuring only page views, the team tracks meaningful events such as:

  • metaverse_cta_clicked
  • metaverse_loaded
  • first_interaction
  • mission_started
  • mission_completed
  • character_verification_started
  • character_verification_completed
  • signup_start
  • signup_completed
  • contact_request
  • pilot_interest

This provides a much more useful picture than visitor counts alone.

A page view shows discovery.

A completed mission shows interaction.

Registration shows continuity.

A contact request or pilot proposal can indicate a deeper level of interest.

That shift — from measuring attention to measuring meaningful participation — has become another important part of Daniel's journey.


Building an Ecosystem, Not Just an Application

The longer Daniel works on MyZubster, the more he sees it as an ecosystem rather than a traditional application.

That means thinking beyond individual features.

MyZubster connects ideas around:

  • Artificial intelligence
  • Open source
  • Environmental projects
  • Digital identity
  • Community participation
  • Metaverse experiences
  • IoT
  • Robotics
  • Evidence and provenance
  • Decentralized infrastructure

Zorgax sits within that vision as an AI coordination layer.

But the goal isn't to remove humans from the process.

It is to help people coordinate information, projects, and actions while keeping human authority and evidence at the center.

This is still an experiment.

Some parts are implemented.

Some are prototypes.

Some are research directions.

And some remain future possibilities.

For Daniel, acknowledging those differences is part of building the project responsibly.


What Building MyZubster Has Taught Me

Looking back at the journey so far, several lessons stand out.

1. Don't confuse the vision with the implementation

A big idea can be useful.

But a big idea is not the same as working software.

The distinction needs to remain visible.

2. Let users experience value first

As Neon Plaza demonstrated, asking people to register before they understand the value can create unnecessary friction.

Give them something meaningful to experience first.

3. Measure actions, not just attention

A visitor count tells you that someone arrived.

It doesn't tell you whether they understood the product, completed a task, or found something valuable.

4. AI needs boundaries

AI can assist with reasoning and coordination.

But consequential decisions should remain under appropriate human authority.

5. Building in public requires honesty

Showing what doesn't work, what is incomplete, and what remains uncertain can be just as important as showing successful features.

6. Documentation can become part of governance

When a project becomes large and complex, documentation isn't just something developers read.

It can become the mechanism that keeps the project honest.


Still Building

MyZubster is not finished.

And Daniel doesn't present it as finished.

That may be one of the most interesting parts of the journey.

The project is still being tested, refined, documented, and connected to real people and real experiments.

The challenge now isn't simply to build more features.

It's to discover which parts of the larger vision can survive contact with reality.

Which ideas are genuinely useful?

Which prototypes can become reliable systems?

Which experiments produce measurable results?

Which parts should remain experiments?

And how can AI help without taking away human responsibility?

Those questions are still being answered.

And that is what makes MyZubster a journey rather than simply a product.
