The official OpenAI data export is fine as a backup, but not great if you actually want to use your conversation history. Because of that, I decided to build something that works better for my own archive.

OpenAI Data Exporter is a standalone HTML tool that extracts each chat as a separate MD or PDF file, or both, and saves available original images and attachments to an Assets folder.

PDF export was one of the main reasons I built it. When the original images are available in the data export, the PDFs use full-size embedded images instead of the tiny thumbnails you usually get.

It handles individual chats or bulk exports, large archives, selectable PDF text, and optional chat creation/update dates in filenames.

Everything runs locally in your browser. Your chats are not uploaded anywhere. There is no backend, account, telemetry or analytics. It works offline; when you're online, web-linked images can optionally be fetched and embedded in PDFs.

It's completely free. I built it for my own archive and figured it might be useful to others too.
