Stripe operates on traditional credit card rails, where fixed fees (like $0.30 per txn) completely kill sub-cent micropayments. Cloudflare’s Monetization Gateway leverages the open x402 protocol and settles peer-to-peer using stablecoins on low-cost Layer 2s. Plus, there's zero friction: the AI agent doesn't need to sign up or create an API key—the payment itself acts as the credential right at the network edge.
