Beyond the

Beyond the "Retry Tax": I expanded my AI cost tools into a full founder suite

Leader posted 1 min read

Hey CoderLegion,

A few weeks ago, I shared my "Retry Tax" simulator on DEV, and the response was eye-opening. It turns out, a lot of us are struggling with the "hidden" costs of migrating agents to cheaper models like DeepSeek.

I realized that "hidden math" is everywhere in our industry—from VRAM requirements to SaaS runway and creator margins.

So, I spent the last few weeks rebuilding everything into a Universal Decision-Engine Suite.

What’s new:

The "Default Alive" Simulator: A SaaS runway tool that tells you exactly when you hit $0 (with visual charts).
VRAM & Inference Planner: No more guessing if your GPU can handle that specific model.
The Universal Hub (Chrome Extension): I packaged the whole suite into a small extension so you can run these numbers while coding or planning in the browser.
Check the expanded suite: https://bytecalculators.com The Hub (v2.0): [Link to extension]

I’m curious—what’s the "hidden math" that bites you the most in your current project? Is it server scaling, API reliability, or something else?
