For some months now, as a Frontend Engineer, I've been contemplating diving more into AI. Like how it actually works, not just on the surface. It's safe to say my curiosity led me here.
I use AI tools all the time and always wonder how they work under the hood. My curiosity only grew bigger because of Claude. I have to say it. Oh my... Claude got me in a chokehold. I kept wondering, how? How does this thing work?
The first time I used the free version of Claude to code, I was blown away. I was like, where have you been all my life?
It only got better when Claude Code was released. I saw all the hype and the "it's here to take your job" conversations on X, but trust me, I'm less concerned about that. I'm more interested in using it to my advantage and figuring out how it actually works.
A few months ago, I used Claude Code for the first time, and to this day, I can proudly say it's one of the best decisions I've made in my life as a developer.
Again, it only made my curiosity grow even bigger. From testing different models, Sonnet to Opus, and trust me, Opus is a beast, I could only keep asking myself, " How do they do it?
So I decided to do what I've been stalling on for months. Start my AI journey.
They say the best time to start is now. Absolutely, now is the best time because I genuinely find it interesting, and I need to satisfy my curiosity, at least to some extent.
The language is Python, right?
I know a bit of Python, but I have about 4 years of experience using JavaScript. I've watched several videos on how to get started, but I thought to myself, why not just start with what I already know how to do well, then switch to Python with time?
So I prompted Claude, my favorite buddy. I prompted all it needed to know about my current skill set and asked how I could start. I really liked the suggestion of using tools like Vercel AI SDK and Anthropic docs to understand concepts better and build AI products with my current skill set before fully diving into Python.
I agreed with this immediately because it makes learning more interesting for me. The more I build and learn new things, the more fun it becomes. Instead of forcing a switch to Python immediately, I get to learn in a way that actually works for me.
Maybe one thing I didn't mention earlier and kept till the end is that someday, I want to work with the people who created my favorite buddy, Claude. Anthropic.
Hopefully they see this... haha.
