SHINE: Safe Home Internet Notification Engine

posted 1 min read

I created SHINE chrome extension because I got tired of watching news segments, most recently in Tumbler Ridge, Canada, about school shootings where everyone says the same thing: "He showed signs online, but no one saw them in time." Troubled kids almost always leave digital footprints before they act: they search for weapons, research past shootings, post disturbing content, and tell the internet what they're planning long before telling anyone in person. SHINE closes that gap by silently running in the background of every device where it's installed, scanning browsing activity at home and school, and flagging concerning keywords and behavioral red flags the moment they appear. When something worrisome is detected—whether it's violent content, self-harm searches, or weapon-related queries—instant notifications are sent directly to parents or designated school personnel, creating a critical window for early intervention before thoughts turn into actions.

It comes with subscriptions where you get complete monitoring, unlimited alerts, and the peace of mind that someone is always watching for warning signs across every device your child uses. A free trial is also available.

I'm open to collaborations with school districts, youth counselors, and educational organizations who want to bring this protection to more families and classrooms. Because the best school shooting is the one that never happens, and it starts with knowing what our children are typing when we're not looking.
